Crystal Care by Mineral: Water, Light and Storage

A practical guide to keeping quartz, fluorite, jewelry and polished stones in good condition.

Start dry

A soft cloth or brush is the safest first step for most specimens. Avoid soaking a stone until you know its hardness, stability and any coatings or metal settings.

Watch direct light

Strong sunlight can fade amethyst, rose quartz and other colored minerals over time. Display them in bright, indirect light instead.

Store pieces separately

Hard crystals can scratch softer stones and jewelry. Cotton pouches and divided boxes reduce contact while keeping pieces easy to find.
